Bird densities Wideumont

Radar Wideumont
The Wideumont radar is a single-polarization C-band Doppler radar, located on the plateau de Recogne, Luxembourg province, Belgium. The antenna, the transmitter and the receiver are installed on top of a 46-m high steel tower, bringing the antenna at a height of 585 m above mean sea level. Bird densities in Wideumont are typically higher than at the Dutch weather radar sites of De Bilt and Den Helder, since the radar is situated more centrally in the Scandinavian flyway

Available data
In each figure, the upper panel shows the bird density (expressed as the number of birds per cubic kilometer) for different height layers above ground (200 meter height resolution). The bird density color scale is logarithmic, increasing from 0.5-700 birds/km3. Bird speed and direction are plotted as wind barbs (each half flag represents 5 knots, each full flag 10 knots, each pennant (filled triangle) 50 knots; 1 knot = 1.9 km/hour). The lower panel shows the vertically integrated bird density (expressed as the number of birds per square kilometer).
